Evan Rachel Wood is back on the big screen playing a character you're definitely not going to be rooting for!
In their new film, Allure, Evan Rachel Wood and Julia Sarah Stone play the troubled 30-year-old Laura and the impressionable 16-year-old Eva, respectively. The pair of young women find each other while trying to escape—Eva from her uptight mother, and Laura from her abusive father. Unfortunately, the women’s relationship turns toxic and abusive, as Laura takes advantage of Eva’s emotional dependence on her.
Portraying abusive relationships on screen is always challenging, so it was important for Wood and Stone, as well as the directors Carlos and Jason Sanchez, (the debut feature of Canadian photographers) to create a safe, welcoming environment on set.
I spoke with stars Evan Rachel Wood and Julia Sarah Stone Stone when Allure ( originally title, A Worthy Companion) premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival last Fall about challenge of portraying their characters’ abusive relationship on screen.
Also below is my interview with Carlos and Jason Sanchez, the writers and directors of Allure.
ALLURE opens in Toronto on April 6th. Other Canadian cities will follow.
