Princess Cruises, the seagoing co-star of The Love Boat, is attempting to set a world record for the largest vow renewal at sea and Gavin and Jill will officiate and host the ceremony on a Valentine’s Day cruise in 2020. Gavin MacLeod portrayed the endearing “Captain Stubing” and Jill Whelan co-starred as his daughter, “Vicki” on The Love Boat for 10 seasons from 1977 to 1986. The show sparked the growth of the cruise industry making romance on the high seas available for the masses.
In addition to “Captain Stubing,” Gavin MacLeod portrayed another iconic television character, “Murry Slaughter,” on the groundbreaking Mary Tyler Moore Show. MacLeod was also a series regular on McHale’s Navy and has appeared in hundreds of television roles in his career along with movies and on Broadway. His 2013 autobiography “This is Your Captain Speaking: My Fantastic Voyage Through Hollywood, Faith & Life” was a best-seller.
Actress and singer Jill Whelan was just a 10-year-old when she began playing the role of “Vicki Stubing.” She is currently Princess Cruises Celebrations Ambassador. Her many other film and TV credits include Airplane, The Young & the Restless, Babies Having Babies and Dispatch. She recently appeared on Celebrity Wife Swap, Battle of the Network Stars and just finished shooting Take it from the Top.
