Jake Gyllenhaal is never one to shy away from a difficult or challenging roles. When he was given the script for his latest film, Demolition he knew that this was a role he had to tackle. In the film, Gyllenhaal plays Davis Mitchell, a New York investment banker who is pretty much sleepwalking through his successful life.  He goes through his daily motions,  but for some reason, he just doesn’t seem happy. 

Writer/Director Jamie M. Dagg made his feature film debut at the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival with River and then traveled to the Whistler Film Festival where it won awards for Best Director, Best Screenplay and Best Canadian Feature. It has also been awarded the prestigious Best First Feature by the Canadian Screen Awards.

Room is one of those movies that after having seen it, will stay with you for a very long time. Based on the best-selling novel of the same name written by Emma Donoghue, Room has been beautifully translated for the big screen by director Lenny Abrahamson and stars Brie Larson (who just won a Best Actress Oscar for her powerful performance) and up and coming young actor Jacob Tremblay.

Canadian director Bruce McDonald is back and this time around he has chosen to give us all a bit of a scare! McDonald's Hellions  is a Halloween horror as only Bruce McDonald could make it.  It begins like a classic Halloween horror, with a young girl alone at home on Halloween night bur things going quickly awry.  The film becomes a fever dream tribute to 70’s horror classics like Rosemary’s Baby and Dario Argento’s Suspiria, with a dash of the Wizard of Oz.

Sicario is an intense new film directed by Quebec filmmaker Denis Villeneuve (Prisoners) that stars Emily Blunt, Josh Brolin and Benecio Del Toro.  Blunt plays idealistic FBI agent Kate Macer who  and after rising through the ranks of her male-dominated profession,  receives a top assignment. Recruited by mysterious government official Matt Graver (Josh Brolin), Kate joins a task force for the escalating war against drugs. Led by the intense and shadowy Alejandro (Benicio Del Toro), the team travels back-and-forth across the U.S.-Mexican border, using one cartel boss (Bernardo Saracino) to flush out a bigger one (Julio Cesar Cedillo).

From the minute I saw Room weeks prior to the start of the Toronto International Film Festival, I was certain that not only would it capture people's hearts but would go on to be a huge award winner.
