DR DEATH (SEASON 2) - INTERVIEWS WITH LUKE KIRBY, GUSTAF HAMMARSTEN AND THE SHOW'S CREATORS

The wildly popular podcast Dr. Death is back for a second Season on the small screen.

Based on the Wondery podcast hosted by Laura Bell, Dr. Death, the Peacock series adaptation, premiered on July 15, 2021, and a year later, was renewed for a second season. The first season followed the events of the podcast's investigations into the true story of a Texas neurosurgeon, Christopher Duntsch, who infamously mutilated his patients, rendering many of them quadriplegics for life and two dead. Joshua Jackson played Dr. Death giving us a chilling and memorable performance.

Now Dr Death is back and this season also based on the Wondery podcast, follows "Miracle Man" Paolo Macchiarini, a charming surgeon renowned for his innovative operations. When investigative journalist Benita Alexander approaches him for a story, the line between personal and professional begins to blur, changing her life forever. As she learns how far Paolo will go to protect his secrets, a group of doctors halfway across the world make shocking discoveries of their own that call everything about Paolo into question.

The series stars Edgar Ramirez as the charming and deceitful Doctor Macchiarini, Mandy Moore as the journalist Benita Alexander and Ashley Madekwe, Luke Kirby and Gustaf Hammarsten as doctors who begin to suspect Dr. Macchiarini and eventually become whistleblowers of his practices.

This season, producer and writer Ashley Michel Hoban is at the helm as the showrunner of Season 2. Before writing and producing on Season 1, Hoban was a supervising producer for another true-crime series, Hulu's The Girl From Plainville. Patrick Macmanus, the creator of the series who served as the writer, showrunner, and executive producer on Season 1, will now return as an executive producer.

I spoke with Luke Kirby and Gustaf Hammarsten and Ashley Michel Hoban & Patrick Macmanus about Season 2 of Dr. Death.

Dr. Death, Season 2: Airs Monday, January 7th at 9pmET on SHOWCASE and STACKTV in Canada.
