A SMALL LIGHT - BILLIE BOULLET WHO PLAYS ANNE FRANK DISCUSSES THIS IMPORTANT SERIES

The story of Anne Frank and her family and the brave woman who hid them is being told in an extraordinary mini series coming to Nat Geo and Disney Plus.

A Small Light tells the true story of Miep Gies, an amazing woman who helped hide Anne Frank and her family during the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands in WW11. Tod through a modern lens, this Nat Geo series ( airing next day on Disney + and Hulu) looks at the way in which an ordinary woman like Miep stood up to such an evil world - and became a heroine in doing so.

Miep Gies was young, carefree and opinionated — at a time when opinions got you killed ― when Otto Frank asked her to help hide his family (including Anne Frank) from the Nazis during WWII.

A SMALL LIGHT shakes the cobwebs off history and makes Miep’s story feel relevant, forcing audiences to ask themselves what they would have done in Miep’s shoes; and in modern times, asking if they would have the courage to stand up to hatred. Some stood by, Miep stood up.

The eight-part series premieres Monday, May 1, at 9/8c on National Geographic with two back-to-back episodes. New episodes will debut every Monday at 9/8c on National Geographic and will stream next day on Disney+ and Hulu.

The series stars Bel Powley as Miep Gies, Joe Cole as Jan Gries, Liev Schreiber as Otto Frank and newcomer Billie Boullet as Anne.

I spoke with Billie Boullet about the series, the daunting pressure she felt playing such an iconic figure in history and what she hopes audiences will take from watching this series.
