ALL TOGETHER NOW - Auli'i Cravalho, Rhenzy Feliz, Justina Machado, Judy Reyes and director Brett Haley Interview
/All Together Now is a new heartwarming movie that begins streaming on Netflix on Friday.
Based on Matthew Quick's best selling novel, Sorta Like A Rockstar, the film stars Auli'i Cravalho (Moana) as Amber, a teen with her sights set on attending Carnegie Mellon University. From the outside, Amber seems to have everything going for her, but what her friends don't know is that every night, she sleeps on a school bus alongside her mother (and trusty pup).
All Together Now follows Amber as she learns what it means to accept help from others, Amber is such a positive and selfless person who loves to give and give but has a very hard time taking anything in return. Despite all of her “hidden” hardships she maintains a happy front until the people who love her most see through her facade and try to help her.
Director Brett Haley ( All the Bright Places) who knows a thing or two about directing teen dramas and teens says that Cravalho was Haley's first choice for the lead role. When he first read the script he immediately thought she would be perfect for the role because she radiates positivity. He says that Cravalho has a bright and glowing personality which lights up every room she walks into. Even though many young girls audition for the role he knew in his heart that here really was no one else who could capture Amber’s essence.
Another bonus in this film is that the legendary Carol Burnett is in it! Burnett plays an agin woman who lives at the nursing home where Amber works. The dynamic between Burnett and Cravalho is absolutely wonderful and the two got along instantaneously.
