Before I Fall - Zoey Deutch Interview
/Zoey Deutch is an up and coming young actress who is definitely going places. The daughter of Lea Thompson (Back to the Future) Deutch has made a name for herself on her own merit and that is the way she wants to remain.
Her latest film, Before I Fall showcases her acting chops and is a project that is near and dear to her heart. In the movie, Deutch stars as a popular high-school girl who finds herself reliving the last day of her life over and again. She's given the chance to right her wriongs, and through a series of events she does just that. Though the role in Ry Russo-Young’s adaptation of Lauren Oliver's young-adult novel challenged her as an actor, it also brought back unpleasant preteen memories.
"I haven't said this to anyone yet, but working on this movie made me think about the times I wasn't exactly the model of good behavior," Deutch told me during our recent interview in Los Angeles. "I called three people from high school that I did not treat very well, and the funny thing is that they all said, why do you care, they hadn't been thinking about it. But I had been thinking about it and I wanted to right a wrong."
The message in the movie is strong. It isn’t just a teen movie; it questions mortality and purpose and not taking things for granted — who you want to be when you die. It definitely make people who have seen it so far do a lot of self-reflection.
We're going to be seeing a lot of Zoey Deutch over the next year or so. She is starring in The Disaster Artist, which is going to be at South by Southwest alongside James Franco. Rebel in the Eye about he life of celebrated but reclusive author, J.D. Salinger, who gained worldwide fame with the publication of his novel, The Catcher in the Rye. Zoey plays Salinger's love, Oona O'Neil.
She just finished Flower, written and directed by Max Winkler with Kathryn Hahn, Adam Scott and Tim Heidecker. It’s about a young girl who looks for love and validation in the wrong places.
She also recently completed The Year of Spectacular Men, a movie directed by her mom and co-stars and was written by her sister.
Yes - we will be seeing a lot of Zoey Deutch and there's nothing wrong with that.
Before I Fall is now playing.
