Chris Hemsworth gets Really Skinny
/We’re all used to seeing Chris Hemsworth in all of his hunky glory. The man who we all know and love as Thor in the Avengers movies and was crowned last year’s Sexiest Man Alive according to People Magazine is sporting an awfully thin frame these days.
Filming for his latest role in Ron Howard’s In The Heart of The Sea took quite the toll on the Australian actor. I have to admit that when I interviewed him this past weekend interview, he looked good but I kind of wanted to offer him a sandwich or a nice fattening dessert!
Just to prove how much he had to change his appearance for his leading part in the film, Hemsworth has uploaded an image to his Twitter account.
Yes folks, underneath that shaggy hair, scruffy beard, and mounds of dirt is Chris Hemsworth. You can just about recognize him because of his piercing blue eyes. Not only is his face unrecognizable but Hemsworth dropped a huge amount of weight in order to portray First Mate Owen Chase in Ron the nautical adventure.
Chris told me that the actors were dropping down from 1,000 calories to just 500 calories a day in order to look as gaunt and emaciated as possible.
Based on the best selling novel of the same name, In The Heart of The Sea focuses on real events and takes place In 1820, when crewmen (Chris Hemsworth, Benjamin Walker, Cillian Murphy, Tom Holland) board the New England vessel, The Essex. The men face a harrowing battle for survival when a whale of mammoth size and strength attacks with force, crippling their ship and leaving them adrift in the ocean. Pushed to their limits and facing storms, starvation, panic and despair, the survivors must resort to the unthinkable to stay alive. Their incredible tale ultimately inspires author Herman Melville to write "Moby-Dick."
Look for my exclusive interviews with Chris Hemsworth, director Ron Howard, Tom Holland and Ben Walker coming very soon!
In The Heart of the Sea sails into theatres on December 11th
