TIFF '14: Dir. Damien Chazelle on Whiplash

It's been nothing but accolades for the critically acclaimed film, "Whiplash." The film took home the grand prize at the 40th Deauville American Film Festival.  Damien Chazelle's "Whiplash" premiered in-competition at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival in the opening slot, going on to earn the top audience and grand jury awards. It also played to rave reviews at the Toronto International Film Festival.  It is the story of a jazz drummer ( Miles Teller ) seeking stardom under the watchful eye of his terse conductor ( J.K. Simmons ).  I had the opportunity to speak with Damien Chazelle, the film's director while he was in Toronto to promote the film.
