FUTURE MAN - ELIZA COUPE & DEREK WILSON INTERVIEW
/Eliza Coupe & Derek Wilson co-star in, Future Man, Hulu’s time-travelling romp that’s unlike any series you’ve seen before!!
Back for Season 2, Coupe and Wilson say if you thought the first season was wacky just wait until you see what is coming at you in the new season.
Future Man follows the adventures of a janitor by day/world-ranked gamer by night, who is tasked with preventing the extinction of humanity after mysterious visitors from the future proclaim him the key to defeating the imminent super-race invasion.
Season two of Future Man picks up in 2162; Josh (Josh Futturman), Wolf, and Tiger learn that their season one mission to stop the cure from getting out didn’t work. In this timeline, Stu Camillo (played by Haley Joel Osment) is now in power, having created the cure, and launched a plan to relocate humanity to Mars. A shadowy organization called the Pointed Circle seeks to recruit Josh to take Stu down – but are they the good guys, or is Stu? As Wolf quickly acclimates to the strange customs of this time, Tiger struggles with her Biotic identity and searches for an escape. Josh unites the team in an epic plan to save the world, but their time-traveling catches up to them, and they must reckon with their choices and what to do next.
The show is co-produced by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg who have been writing partners for years.
Busy actress Eliza Coupe stars as ’Tiger,' the female lead in FutureMan. She can also be seen recurring on Hulu's Casual and The Mindy Project, and most recently on ABC’s Quantico, TBS’ Wrecked, USA’s Benched and Showtime’s House of Lies. Eliza may be best-known for her lead role in the comedy series, Happy Endings. She was also a series regular on the last two seasons of Scrubs.
Derek Wilson stars as ‘Wolf’ in Future Man. He started his career on stage appearing in such productions as Anna Christie and 22 of Shakespeare’s plays, including the Broadway revival of Macbeth. On television, Derek portrayed “Donnie Schenck” in the first season of AMC’s Preacher. His many other TV credits include The Good Wife, Person of Interest, Aquarius and Rectify. He recently starred in the feature film Oxalis.
I spoke with Eliza Coupe and Derek Wilson via satellite from Los Angeles about the new season, the zaniness of the show, if there is anything that has really shocked them and much more.
Seasons 1 and 2 of Future Man can be seen on HULU
By the end of the first season, the protagonists of Future Man - Josh Futturman (Josh Hutcherson), Tiger (Eliza Coupe) and Wolf (Derek Wilson) - thought they had finally saved humanity from the Herpes cure that would inadvertently trigger the apocalypse. Sure, there were a lot of upsets along the way, but they did it! Josh’ future, and Tiger and Wolf’s present, was no longer going to be the surreal, dystopian nightmare it was before. Right? Wrong, for as Future Man season 2 quickly lets its audience know, these three have managed to damage humanity’s timeline so much that the chances of it ever returning to normal are pretty much null.
