GOODRICH - CATCHING UP WITH WRITER/DIRECTOR HALLIE MEYERS-SHYER
/Write from a place that you know.. and that’s exactly what Hallie Meyers-Shyer did with her latest film, Goodrich.
If life isn't kicking your ass, it's not doing its job. Goodrich, written and directed by Hallie Meyers-Shyer was a personal and cathartic exprience. The film stars Michael Keaton as Andy Goodrich whose life is upended when his wife and mother of their nine-year-old twins enters a 90-day rehab program, leaving him on his own with their young kids. Thrust into the world of modern parenthood, Goodrich leans on his daughter from his first marriage, Grace (Mila Kunis), as he ultimately evolves into the father Grace never had.
The film also stars Carmen Ejogo, Michael Urie, Kevin Pollak, Vivien Lyra Blair, Nico Hiraga, Danny Deferrari, with Laura Benanti, and Andie MacDowell.
Hallie Meyers-Shyer is a screenwriter and director. In 2017, she made her directorial debut, HOME AGAIN, starring Reese Witherspoon. Meyers-Shyer grew up in Los Angeles and attended The New School in Manhattan and The University of Southern California’s Writing for Screen and Television Program. She currently resides in Los Angeles where she’s working on her next feature film. Hallie is no stranger to filmmaking. She is the daughter of filmmakers Charles Shyer and Nancy Meyers.
I spoke with Hallie Meyers-Shyer about the personal connection she had to the script, casting Michael Keaton and Mila Kunis and the best advice she received from her mom, filmmaker Nancy Meyers.
Goodrich is in Theaters Friday, October 18th
