Project Blue Book - Aidan Gillen & Michael Malarkey Interview
/History Channel’s new UFO drama explores one of the most mysterious eras in U.S. History with their new intriguing series, Project Blue Book . The show debuts on History Channel on January 8th.
Starring AIdan Gillen ( Game of Thrones) and Michael Malarkey ( The Vampire Diairies), Project Blue Book is Executive produced by Academy Award® and Golden Globe® winner Robert Zemeckis (Forrest Gump, Back to the Future, Contact),. This fascinating series is based on the true, Top Secret investigations into Unidentified Flying Objects (UFOs) and related phenomena conducted by the United States Air Force from 1952-1969.
The series is inspired by the personal experiences of Dr. J. Allen Hynek (Gillen), a brilliant college professor recruited by the U.S. Air Force to spearhead this clandestine operation (Project Blue Book) that researched thousands of cases, over 700 of which remain unsolved to this day. Each episode will draw from the actual case files blending UFO theories with authentic historical events from one of the most mysterious eras in United States history.
Known for playing some pretty dark characters, Aidan Gillen was thrilled to get the chance to show another side of his acting talents. Allen Hynek, the guy they hire to front the operation starts out a thoughtful sceptic and comes one of the leading proponents of the UFO movement or the ‘UFOlogists’. One of his books, The UFO Experience, inspired Spielberg to make Close Encounters Of The Third Kind. Allen Hynek was the technical advisor and appeared in it.
Aidan Gillen is currently starring in the Freddy Mercury biopic, Bohemian Rhapsody. He was also most recently seen opposite Debra Winger in The Lovers, Guy Ritchie’s King Arthur: Legend of the Sword and in the third instalment of the Maze Runner series Maze Runner: Death Cure. Gillen can be seen in the fourth season of the BBC Two series Peaky Blinders which is currently streaming on Netflix.
Michael Malarkey is a British-American actor and singer/songwriter best known for his role as Enzo in the hit CW series The Vampire Diaries. In 2013, Malarkey was cast in the recurring role of Lorezno (Enzo) in Season 5 of The Vampire Diaries. After his character became an audience favorite, Malarkey was upgraded to a series regular in Season 6 and remained with the series until it concluded with Season 8 in spring 2017. Other credits include the CW television movie The Selection, a guest-starring role on the acclaimed British series Mr. Sloane opposite Nick Frost and Olivia Coleman, and several short films.
