SCHOOLED - AJ MICHALKA and BRETT DIER INTERVIEW

Schooled the spin off to the wildly successful series, The Goldbergs is wrapping up the season and there promises to be fireworks between two of the show’s major players!

Set in 1990-something, the series follows the hilarious faculty of William Penn Academy, led by new music teacher and WP graduate Lainey Lewis (AJ Michalka), Principal Glascott (Tim Meadows), Coach Mellor (Bryan Callen) and young, enthusiastic super-teacher Charlie Brown, or CB for short (Brett Dier) and prized and passionate science teacher Wilma (Haneefah Wood). Despite their eccentricities and crazy personal lives, these teachers are heroes to their students.

AJ Michalka and Brett Dier who have always had a great relationship on the show just might be taking it to the next level. We will find out if sparks are really there on the Season Finale which airs on May 13th on ABC and CTV in Canada.

AJ Michalka

AJ Michalka recently released a new album and followed it with a 20-city sold out tour. She has worked with academy award winning directors Peter Jackson and J.J. Abrams. As a member of the duo Aly & AJ, she and her sister released two hit albums with Hollywood Records, becoming platinum-selling recording artists at a very young age. Working alongside her sister, Michalka recently released a new EP, “Ten Years.” She appeared in “The Lovely Bones,” directed by Academy Award® winner Peter Jackson, alongside Academy Award nominee Mark Wahlberg, future Academy Award nominee Saoirse Ronan and Academy Award winner Rachel Weisz. She starred in J.J. Abrams’ much-anticipated film “Super 8,” and opposite Diane Lane and John Malkovich in the Walt Disney Pictures feature film “Secretariat.”

Brett Dier who was born in London, Ontario has had a very successful career. He is best known for his role as Michael Cordero Jr. on Jane the Virgin. He is also known for his recurring roles on the Canadian TV shows Bomb Girls and The L.A. Complex. He studied improv as well as receiving his first dan black belt in Taekwondo. He reached the 6th grade of Conservatory Music in piano, including the Suzuki method since the age of 4. He also plays the guitar. Dier received honors for his work. Brett is a self-taught musician. He also breakdances and practices swimming.

I spoke with AJ and Brett from their homes in Los Angeles about the success of Schooled and why they think it is connecting with audiences.
