THE GILDED AGE - CATCHING UP WITH SERIES STARS CARRIE COON and MORGAN SPECTOR

The Russell’s are at the top of their game in Season 2 of the hit HBO series, The Gilded Age.

Actors Carrie Coon and Morgan Spector are absolutely delicious in the series, The Gilded Age. They play Bertha and George Russell, who have emerged as THE power couple on the show and will stop at almost nothing to get what they want in society.

The American Gilded Age was a period of immense economic change, of great conflict between the old ways and brand new systems, and of huge fortunes made and lost. Season two of THE GILDED AGE begins on Easter morning 1883, with the news that Bertha Russell's bid for a box at the Academy of Music has been rejected.

Through the eight episodes of the season, we watch as Bertha challenges Mrs. Astor and the old system and works to not only gain a foothold in Society, but to potentially take a leading role in it. George Russell takes on his own battle with a growing union at his steel plant in Pittsburgh. In the Brook House, Marian continues her journey to find her way in the world secretly teaching at a girls school while much to everyone’s surprise Ada begins a new courtship.

Of course, Agnes approves of none of it. In Brooklyn, the Scott family begins to heal from a shocking discovery, and Peggy taps into her activist spirit through her work with T. Thomas Fortune at the NY Globe.

Carrie Coon is one of Hollywood’s most sought-after talents with a wide variety of roles across film, television, and theatre. She has garnered acclaim throughout her career and continues to cultivate her impressive body of work. Carrie’s breakout role in film came in the highly acclaimed film Gone Girl opposite Ben Affleck, Rosamund Pike, and Neil Patrick Harris.

Additional film credits include Jason Reitman’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife; Sean Durkin’s The Nest for which she received critical acclaim; Steve McQueen’s Widows; Anthony and Joe Russo’s Marvel Universe blockbuster Avengers: Infinity War; and Steven Spielberg’s The Post.

In television, Carrie starred as ‘Vera Walker’ in the second season of the USA Network’s The Sinner. For her work, Carrie was nominated for her third Critics’ Choice Television Award; this time for “Best Actress in a Movie or Limited Series.” In 2017, Carrie made history by winning the first ever double TCA Award for Individual Achievement in Drama for her brilliant work in both HBO’s The Leftoversand FX’s anthology series Fargo. The latter of which also earned her an Emmy nomination in the category of “Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie” as well as a Critics’ Choice Television Award nomination for “Best Actress in a Movie or Limited Series.” For her work in The Leftovers, Carrie was awarded the 2016 Critics’ Choice Television Award for “Best Actress in a Drama Series.

A classically trained stage actor, Morgan Spector will reprise his lead role in HBO’s original series “The Gilded Age.” Spector received critical acclaim, including a Critics Choice Nomination, for his work in David Simon’s "The Plot Against America." Additional TV credits include "Homeland,” (Showtime) and “Boardwalk Empire" (HBO), as well as leads on “Pearson (USA), “The Mist" (Spike) and "Allegiance" (NBC). Film credits include “Boston Strangler”, “Nanny,” which was awarded the Grand Jury Prize in the US Dramatic Competition at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival, "A Vigilante", “Permission”, and “Chuck.” On stage with his Broadway debut “View from the Bridge” in 2010, Spector also held starring roles in “Russian Transport” for which he was nominated for a Drama Desk, “Harvey”, “Machinal”, “Ironbound”, “Incognito”, and “Animal.”

I was thrilled to speak with Carrie Coon and Morgan Spector about the series and working opposite some pretty impressive Broadway veterans. Watch our chat below.
