THEM - INTERVIEWS WITH LITTLE MARVIN AND THE CAST

Prepare yourselves for Them, a supernatural-horror series now streaming on Amazon Prime Video.

Them: Covenant, is a terrifying new horror anthology series about a black family in the Fifties moving into an all-white neighborhood, where their racist neighbors may be a greater threat than the supernatural monsters lurking in the basement.

Created by Little Marvin and co-produced by Lena Waithe, Covenant opens with a doom impending prologue at the North Carolina country home of Livia “Lucky” Emory (Deborah Ayorinde) and her World War II veteran husband Henry (Ashley Thomas).
After a family tragedy makes living there impossible, they join in on the Great Migration of African American families from the rural South to the rest of the country. Henry has landed a job as an engineer with an airplane manufacturer, so he packs up Lucky and daughters Ruby (Shahadi Wright Joseph) and Gracie (Melody Hurd) for the drive to Los Angeles, where they’ve acquired a house in Compton.

We immediately feel the tension as soon as the Emory’s drive on to their new street, where every single person is white and are not all too happy about who is moving into their neighbourhood.

Lucky and Henry move in right across the street from the neighborhood busy-body and self proclaimed Queen bee, Betty (Alison Pill – who is absolutely frightening and amazing on this show ), who decides she has to run these people out of town immediately, or risk her idyllic neighbourhood being overrun by people who look more like Lucky than like her.

To make matters even worse, the Emorys are not only dealing with threats of extreme racism but there are supernatural elements that have followed them to Compton that are making their lives a terrifying nightmare.

Them is a series that will absolutely generate plenty of discussion but a warning, it is not for the faint of heart.

I spoke with series creator Little Marvin and cast members, Canada’s own Alison Pill, Deborah Ayorinde, Ashley Thomas, Shahadi Wright Joseph and Melody Hurd about working on the series.
