Triple 9: Interview with Casey Affleck
/2016 is turning into quite the year for actor Casey Affleck. We most recently saw him in The Finest Hours and he was the talk of the Sundance Film Festival for his performance in the heartfelt drama, Manchester By the Sea. latest role is in the intense drama. Affleck's latest role is in Triple 9 where he plays a "good" police officer surrounded by a bunch of corrupt officers.
Triple 9 opens with an intense scene on the Atlanta freeway as armed thieves make their getaway following a bank robbery in broad daylight. Unhappy with the results, ruthless gangster Irina Vlaslov (Kate Winslet) orders the men to pull off another job. One member of the team is Marcus Belmont (Anthony Mackie), a crooked cop who gets saddled with Chris Allen (Casey Affleck), his new but incorruptible police partner. As Belmont and his co-horts lay the groundwork for the heist, they come up with a devious way to use Allen as their pawn.
Casey Affleck made an impressive debut on the Hollywood scene in 2007, when he had two breakout roles: “Gone Baby Gone,” directed by his older brother Ben, and “The Assassination of Jesse James By the Coward Robert Ford,” in which he played the coward, Robert Ford, and for which he received an Oscar nomination for best supporting actor.
Since he's been seen in a number of impressive roles including a memorable performance opposite Christian Bale in Out of the Furnace about two brothers in steel-town Pennsylvania. His performance in Triple 9 solidify's that this Affleck has acting chops, and from all accounts from the recent Sundance Film Festival, Casey just might be looking at his first Best Actor Oscar nomination for his heart-wrenching performance in Kenneth Lonergan's Manchester By the Sea. this extended interview, Casey Affleck talks about working on
I spoke with Casey Affleck in Los Angeles for an extended interview where we discussed why he wanted to be a part of Triple 9, playing cops and robbers as a kid with brother Ben and how he chooses his roles.
