A Wrinkle In Time - Kidding around with Deric McCabe
/He may only be 9 years old but Deric McCabe is a bundle of energy. This bright young actor plays Charles Wallace - a pivotal role - in the new film A Wrinkle In Time adapted from Madeleine L'Engle's best selling book of the same name.
It’s McCabe’s first big feature film in which he stars alongside the likes of Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, Mindy Kaling, Zach Galifianakis and Chris Pine. Deric not only holds his own opposite these veterans, but he he pretty much steals every scene he is in!
The story centers around Meg Murry and her little brother, Charles Wallace, who have been without their scientist father, Mr. Murry, for five years, ever since he discovered a new planet and used the concept known as a tesseract to travel there. Joined by Meg's classmate Calvin O'Keefe and guided by the three mysterious astral travelers known as Mrs. Whatsit, (Witherspoon) Mrs. Who (Kaling) and Mrs. Which,( Winfrey) the children brave a dangerous journey to a planet that possesses all of the evil in the universe.
“After a nationwide search where casting saw thousands of kids worldwide (literally) in over 7 months, @dericmccabe booked a leading role in Disney’s upcoming film, “A Wrinkle in Time” as Charles Wallace. Directed by @directher – he’ll be working alongside @oprah @reesewitherspoon @mindykaling @stormreid @levizmiller (to name a few),” Deric‘s mom shared on his official Instagram page.
She added, “Deric worked hard for this: hours of auditions, callbacks, meeting, interviews… 17 page, 5 page, 3 page, 21 page scripts to learn overnight…while continuing to spend time with family, do his regular chores, and excel in school. He prayed, remained patient, and was persistent. Thankful and Blessed.”
