Daytime Divas - Vanessa Williams Interview

Who doesn't love the down and dirty behind the scenes antics of a daytime female talk show host/diva? That's the premise behind the juicy new scripted comedy series on the VH1  (Bravo in Canada) called Daytime Divas starring the one and only Vanessa Williams.

Talented and gorgeous, the accomplished actress headlines the show which follows the feuds and fireworks that erupt between five female Co-Hosts of a daily Talk Show.

In Daytime Divas, Vanessa plays ‘Maxine Robinson.’ Maxine is one of five female hosts on “The Lunch Hour,” the long-running women’s talk show on television, everyday at noon. Maxine is the Barbara Walters type character who leads the discussion and is the "Mama-Bear" so to speak, of the group.

The ladies gather around the table to discuss life, love, politics, and juicy gossip. But behind the scenes, it’s even juicier — a backstage world filled with power struggles, diva fits, and steamy affairs that also includes Maxine’s son Shawn (McKinley Freeman), who is a producer on the talk show. The series is inspired by the book Satan’s Sisters… a novel by Star Jones (who of course was a co-host on The View for many years).

Vanessa Williams has found success in every area of entertainment: music, theatre, film and television. She has sold millions of albums, earning multiple Grammy® and Tony Award® nominations and is a New York Times best-selling author. She even has a line of clothing inspired by the pieces she loves most from her own wardrobe. Williams has starred in numerous films, TV and Broadway productions and has earned seven NAACP Image Awards, as well as multiple Emmy Award® nominations. A couple of her most memorable roles are 'Wilhelmina Slater' from ABC's Ugly Betty and ‘Ebony Scrooge’ in the VH1 Original Movie, A Diva’s Christmas Carol.

I spoke with  Vanessa Williams live via satellite from New York about her dishy new role, how she manages to stay so young, why she thinks daytime talk shows are so addictive and would she ever consider hosting one for real!

Daytime Divas airs Monday nights at 10pm.
