JUDY and PUNCH - MIRRAH FOULKES and DAMON HERRIMAN INTERVIEW
/The classic puppet show Punch and Judy gets a mid century re-telling with a 21st Century revenge plot.
The new film, Judy and Punch is set in the mythical town of Seaside, (nowhere near the sea), where puppeteers Judy and Punch are trying to resurrect their marionette show. The show is a hit due to Judy's superior puppeteering but Punch's driving ambition leads to a tragedy that Judy must avenge.
The film stars Australian actors Mia Wasikowska ( Alice Through theLooking Glass) as Judy and Damon Herriman ( Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, Mindhunter) as Punch and is written and directed by Mirrah Foulkes in her directorial debut.
If you’ve seen Once Upon a Time in America and/or Mindhunter it was hard to ignore Damon’s spectacular and creepy performance as Charles Manson in both projects. His Punch is right on cue and cements yet another amazing performance as a really horrific villain!
I spoke with Mirrah and Damon via ZOOM from their respective homes in Australia about working on this film and how the film resonates with us today.
Judy & Punch available on June 5th - VOD release.
