Pride and Prejudice and Zombies: Douglas Booth and Matt Smith Interview
/With zombies being the latest rage these days, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is an un-dead mash-up based on the best-selling novel by Seth Grahame-Smith. Published by Quirk Books, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies has sold more than 1.5 million copies in the United States and has been translated into more than two dozen languages.
The premise centers around a zombie outbreak which has fallen upon the land in this reimagining of Jane Austen’s classic tale of the tangled relationships between lovers from different social classes in 19th century England. Feisty heroine Elizabeth Bennet (Lily James) is a master of martial arts and weaponry, and the handsome Mr. Darcy (Sam Riley) is a fierce zombie killer, yet the epitome of upper-class prejudice. As the zombie outbreak intensifies, they must swallow their pride and join forces on the blood-soaked battlefield in order to conquer the undead once and for all. The film also stars Bella Heathcote, Jack Huston, Douglas Booth and Matt Smith.
Aside from all of the zombie killing that went on, it seems real life romance blossomed when stars Lily James (Cinderella, Downton Abbey) met Matt Smith (Dr. Who) on the set of Pride, Prejudice and Zombies last year. The couple who don't exactly hit it off in the film, have been dating ever since and are keeping things private when it comes to doing promotion.
I recently had the opportunity to chat with Douglas Booth who plays (Mr. Bingley) and Matt Smith (Mr. Collins) in Los Angeles about what drew them to the material, how much fun they had making this film and having to take a step back when it came to fighting off the undead.
Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is in theaters on February 5th.
