UnPRISONED - CATCHING UP WITH FALY RAKOTOHAVANA
/UnPrisoned is back for an exciting new season!
The Alexander Family is still a mess – Paige's therapy practice is in trouble, Finn's anxiety is through the roof, Edwin is still figuring out how to get his life together outside of prison, and their relationships are more complicated than ever. The family needs help and it’s time to call in a professional – OTHER than Paige. The Alexanders turn to a “family radical healing coach" who throws out all the rules to free them of their issues, old wounds, and family secrets holding them back.
Paige, Edwin and Finn love each other, but they still have a lot to figure out and navigate when it comes to understanding each other and respecting each other's boundaries and knowing how to coexist. This season is warm, funny, and relatable by leveraging every characters’ journey to show audiences what it takes to become a better family member and prove that it takes a village to help you break through.
Season one of “UnPrisoned” debuted as Onyx Collective’s most-viewed premiere on Hulu and as the first comedy series for the brand. The story is the reality of millions of families who are affected by the criminal justice system in the United States. Inspired by creator Tracy McMillan’s life where flawed but lovable characters are drawn from a place of empathy, humor and soul to honor the families that mass incarceration affects most.
Faly Rakotohavana plays “Finn,” the super-logical (a gamer), low-key but hilarious, sweet, smart and hyper-rational son of single mom/family therapist/influencer Paige.
Rakotohavana landed his first TV guest role on the popular Nickelodeon show Nicky, Ricky, Dicky & Dawn. He also recurred on the hit Disney Channel series Raven’s Home, alongside Raven-Symonè where his character Miles has the power to command people to do things for him through the power of suggestion and develops a romance with Nia. Other small screen credits include recurring on the FOX comedy The Mick, opposite Thomas Barbusca and Kaitlin Olson.
In addition to his work in television, Rakotohavana is making his mark in the world of film. He appeared in Nightmare Cinema, a horror project that gave him the opportunity to work with Mike Garris of Hocus Pocus fame in the film which also stars Mickey Rourke, Richard Chamberlain, Elizabeth Reeser and Maurice Benard. His big break came when he was cast as Matteo in the Disney+ movie Secret Society of Second-Born Royals, alongside Skylar Astin, Niles Fitch, and Peyton Elizabeth Lee.
I spoke with Faly about the series, what he’s learned and who keeps him grounded in real-life.
