/Prepare to find out the behind the scenes goings-on about a storied Professional Wrestling Organization, new owners and a roster of rising stars strive to make an impact beyond the ring on Netflix’s new docu-series, WRESTLERS!
Ohio Valley Wrestling in Louisville, Kentucky, whose alumni include Brock Lesnar, The Miz, John Cena, Dave Bautista and Randy Orton. was once a proud finishing school for young wrestlers who hoped for a chance at a career in big time, but times have changed. Acclaimed wrestler Al Snow clings to an old school wrestling philosophy with a heavy emphasis on storytelling, but in spite of the love of a few diehard fans, the gym struggles week to week to stay relevant enough to keep its doors open. Things have become so dire financially that Al has to sell a majority stake to a group of local businessmen including Matt Jones, the most popular radio personality in the state of Kentucky. Matt and the new ownership group have infused the struggling gym with much-needed cash but it still operates at a staggering loss.
With new owners in the picture, once-famous pro wrestler Al Snow has been given the summer to turn OVW's dire financial situation around. Wrestlers tells the story of a handful of eccentric misfits who attempt to come together to help Al save this historic gym while achieving their own wild dreams of wrestling professionally.
Al Snow is a professional wrestling legend. Al wrestled in his first match in 1982 at 18-years-old and has been involved in the wrestling industry ever since. The Lima, OH., native was able to reach the pinnacle of sports entertainment by becoming a WWE Superstar that spanned across a 13-year period. Al established a great reputation early on in his career as one of the best trainers in the industry. This led to an opportunity to be the head trainer for four seasons on MTV’s WWE reality TV series, ‘Tough Enough.’ After departing from the WWE in 2008, Al went on to work for the Impact TNA promotion for nearly a decade and held various roles with the company. When the in-ring wrestling ended for Al, he knew he wasn’t ready to leave the industry. In June of 2018, Al purchased Ohio Valley Wrestling from founder and wrestling legend Danny Davis and began the process of rebuilding OVW back to prominence in the world of wrestling and launched the Al Snow Wrestling Academy. Although he’s no longer in the ring, Al is just as passionate about wrestling with the focus on developing future stars in the industry.
