Shoot the Messenger - Elyse Levesque & Lyriq Bent Interview
/Perhaps only journalists understand the enigmatic dependency between crime reporters and the police. But the new WGN America drama Shoot the Messenger delves into this complex relationship. The show which stars Elyse Levesque and Lyric Bent has already premiered in Canada on the CBC - but NOW American TV viewers will get the chance to see these two great actors at work in this extraordinary series.
Shoot The Messenger follows Daisy Channing (Levesque), a young reporter trying to balance a messy personal life with a burgeoning career. Things begin to go sideways for Daisy when she witnesses a murder she thinks is gang related, only to find herself slowly drawn into an interconnected web of criminal and illicit sexual activity that reaches into the corridors of corporate and political power. Bent plays the lead homicide detective in this eight-part drama series.
Elyse Levesque caught many eyes and garnered serious reviews as the corrupt Detective Maddy Enger on BBC America’s final season of Orphan Black. She is also known for playing Chloe Armstrong in the Syfy original series Stargate Universe and the witch Genevieve in The Originals.
Lyriq Bent is perhaps best known for his roles in the Saw films, the television series Rookie Blue and The Book of Negroes. Most recently, Bent was cast to play Jamie Overstreet in the Netflix series by Spike Lee, She’s Gotta Have It, based on the film of the same name.
I spoke with my two fellow Canadians about working on this series, how excited they are that the show will now be seen across North America and getting through their steamy love scenes!
